One of the oldest
The flute is one of the oldest known musical instruments, with examples dating back over 40,000 years.
No reed required
Unlike the clarinet or saxophone, the flute makes sound from air blown across an opening — no reed needed.
Made of metal
Most modern flutes are made from silver, nickel, or other metals, even though it is part of the woodwind family.
A wide range
The flute can play across three full octaves, giving it one of the widest ranges in the woodwind section.
